Robotic Materials has developed a powerful bin picking engine that lets the SmartHand pick objects as small as a M3 screw or washer and as large as a toner cartridge.
To maximize success, the user can automatically tune parameters that maximize the occurence of objects of a given size using RM Studio’s built-in Feature Editor. Bin picking can then be triggered using the Python library, the Blockly language or plugins for commercial robotic arms programming environments such as the Universal Robot series.
The ability to measure both forces and displacement in the gripper, allows the hand to detect grasp failures by itself. Unlike solutions that rely on overhead vision, the robot arm does not need to be moved out of the way to reassess the bin.
